What a wonderful week away with a great bunch of people. Here is a little write up of the TGM New Year Ski Holiday 2018.
The group met early on 27 December at Manchester airport for our scheduled flight to Munich. Much excitement ensued, particularly from our new travellers and the youngsters.
On landing our driver Franz took us on the smooth 2.5 hour journey to the Zistelberghof Werfenweng. On arrival there was plenty of snow around the hotel, this was to pile up to at least 2 foot over the next few days! After a superb meal and introductory welcome from TGM, we settled in with a few drinks and an early night for the children, ready for the slopes the next day.
On the Snow
On our first day we visited the excellent resort of Alpendorf, while the beginners stayed locally at Werfenweng on the beginner slopes. The weather was overcast but the snow conditions remained excellent and the team soon got their ski legs back.
Over the next few days we visited Obertauern, Flachau and then Zell am See on New Year’s Eve. The new lift system at Zell am See was fantastic, whisking us up the hill within minutes of arrival. The beginners had a great time progressing and learning on the Glocknebahn. The more advanced groups explored just about the whole of the resort.
On Sunday a group of intrepid travellers took a break from the slopes and had a trip, by train to Salzburg. Excellent shopping, some lovely sights plus warm cosy bars and restaurants were enjoyed by all.
New Years Eve
New Years Eve came around quickly. A party followed including a lovely meal prepared by Rosi and the team at the hotel. A walk down into the village for drinks and fireworks afterwards meant we all celebrated the New Year in true Austria style.
A chilled later start was in order after all the festivities. Some early hot chocolate stops to clear the cobwebs at Flachau, and New Years Day turned into a superb sunny day on the hill.
More Snow
We woke to an extra 40cm of snow, it had been snowing overnight and continued into the morning. After skiing locally we decided to leave for the airport early, just catching our return flight with minutes to spare!
