A very excited group of junior school children and accompanying staff arrived at Manchester Airport on Saturday 30 March. All were ready for their annual Easter school ski holiday to Austria.

We enjoyed excellent direct flights to Munich and a swift transfer to the lovely hotel in Zell am See. The group arrived within plenty of time for tea, and as the next day would be the first time on snow for some of our school students, an early night was in order.

Learning to Ski

The following day the excited children arrived for breakfast in all states of attire. Some had donned full ski kit, ready for Cornflakes and bacon and eggs! After a quick breakfast and a visit to ski hire we walked the 50m to the nursery slope. We were put into three groups depending upon ability and experience.

The top group headed to the top of the Schmittenhoe to attack the blue runs, whilst the beginners spent the day finding their feet on the nursery slopes. All groups met for a hot lunch and a catch up at The Panorama Restaurant at midday.

With the groups having around 4.5 hours skiing they returned tired to the hotel, ready for a shower and tea. Following a lovely hot dinner the group enjoyed an in-house quiz and music challenge before making their way to their rooms for a well earned rest.

Lots to do and see

Each day the school skied at The Schmittenhoe and on one mid-week day we ventured up to The Kitzsteinhorn Glacier at Kaprun for a change of scenery and some fabulous skiing.

The evenings were filled with visits, the schedule included a Pizza restaurant, the fantastic Spa at Kaprun, Ice Hockey Match, film night and the last night disco fun and games night.

Everyone Improved

All the children progressed. For example, on the last day some were conquering even the hardest runs on the mountain. All were skiing together on the fabulous blue and red runs. However, six days skiing can really take it out of you, by the end there were some very tired children, equally tired staff, all ready for the flight home.

The TGM team really enjoyed being with the school, we had a great time and loved seeing every student improve. We hope that they all had a great ski holiday and will go on to ski more in the future!
